We are glad to announce that the second session of the PEACE Webinar Series will take place on Thursday, November 6th, from 15:00 to 16:30 (CET).

This webinar will provide a thematic discussion on Peace & Climate, focusing on Bridging Science and Policy. The session will explore how scientific research can inform policy on climate-related risks to peace, addressing issues such as environmental governance, humanitarian crises, and the role of science in supporting peacebuilding efforts.

The webinar will feature the following speakers:

  • Paula Duarte – Professor of International Relations and Peace Studies at the University of Coimbra and Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES). Her research focuses on water politics, environmental governance, and science-policy dialogues for peace.
  • Halvard Buhaug – Research Professor at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and Professor of Political Science at NTNU. His work focuses on climate-related security risks, extreme weather, and conflict dynamics.
  • Caitriona Dowd – Assistant Professor at University College Dublin. Her research focuses on conflict in humanitarian crises, food insecurity, and peacebuilding, with attention to resilience and gendered dimensions.

The session will be moderated by Gianluca Brunori – Professor of Food Policy and Director of the Interdisciplinary Centre “Sciences for Peace” (CISP), University of Pisa.

The main goal is to offer an open space for all participants’ questions. The speakers will engage in a Q&A session, reflecting on the intersections of climate, peace and policy.
